EWING - George C. Wieger, Jr., 87, of Ewing Township, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident. He retired as Station Captain for the McGuire Air Force Base Fire Department Crash Rescue. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II in the South Pacific. George was a life member of the Pennington Road Fire Company, a member of the New Jersey State Firemen's Relief Association, the Prospect Heights Firemen's Relief Association, the Retired Police and Firemen's Association Local No. 12, the West Trenton Elks No. 105 B.P.O.E, the Ewing VFW Post No. 7298 and Incarnation-St. James Parish.
Son of the late George C. Sr. and Catherine Cushley Wieger, brother of the late Marie Wieger Batsell and Catherine Wieger Bonish, grandfather of the late David Jr., he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret L. Wieger; a son and daughter-in-law, George C. III and Gayle Wieger of Ewing; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and David VanHorn of Phillipsburg, Patricia and Jeffrey Harrison of Manahawkin; a brother, Joseph Wieger of Yardley, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Karen, Tammi, Christopher, David Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Brent and Ashlynn; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Incarnation-St. James Parish, 1545 Pennington Road, Ewing. Interment will follow in the Ewing Church Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington.
