Herschel Hatten
Belton, Texas
Herschel Wayne Hatten, age 83 of Belton, Texas passed away on November 1, 2012 of natural causes.
Herschel was born on November 4, 1928 in Wiggins, MS to Alvin Ross and Dona Elizabeth Kennard Hatten. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Home Vocational High School in Wiggins, MS., enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945, was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1947. He attended Perkinston Jr. College where he received his Associate in Arts degree in 1949. He attended Louisiana State University from 1950 to 1951. Herschel married Emily Elaine Daughdrill of Lumberton, MS on February 1, 1952 at Big Level Baptist Church. Herschel continued his education at the University of Houston where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1973 and his Master of Science in Accounting in 1975. He also earned a certification as a Certified Public Accountant from The Texas State Board of Public Accountants in 1975. Herschel worked for Borden's Milk and Ice Cream for 25 years before he went on to teach at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX for 11 years.
Mr. Hatten is survived by his wife Emily Elaine Hatten of Belton, TX. Children: daughter Emily Kathleen Gerig of Salado, TX, son Larry Wayne Hatten of Belton, TX, son Terry Eugene Hatten of Conroe, TX and daughter Patricia Lynn Uzzi of Katy, TX. Grandchildren: Robert Allen Mitcham of Salado, TX, Lisa Jane Edgington of San Antonio, TX and Shelby Elaine Uzzi of College Station, TX. Great grandchildren: Alyssa Edgington and Ethan Edgington of San Antonio, TX, Kolton Mitcham and Katie Mitcham of Salado, TX. Sisters: Glovia Deloris Hatten Miller of Centerville, IA and Mary Elizabeth Hatten Major of Lexington, NE.
A viewing will be held from 7:00 - 9:00pm, Friday, November 9, at Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins, MS. Graveside services for Mr. Hatten will be at 10:00am, Saturday, November 10, at Big Level Baptist Church Cemetery.

I worked with Herschel many years ago at The Borden Company. A great boss and a really good person. Sorry to hear of his death.
