So sorry for your loss. I have fun memories of visiting Uncle Cal at Sears when I was just a little girl. Although I hadn't seen him in 10 years or so, I always remember him fondly.

Dorothy & family I'm so sorry for your loss. I have so many great memories of Cal at Shangri-La Speedway along with a bunch of pictures from there. I was going to make the church service but I ended up in the hospital and couldn't make it. I bet my Dad is putting together a track in heaven and he now has an announcer ! Gary Gitchell

Aunt Dot and cousins, so sorry to hear of Uncle Cal's passing. I was so glad to be able to see him 5 years ago when I came back to visit. He was my favorite baby uncle. Lots of fond memories from childhood and babysitting my cousins. Just knowing Mom and Dad were there to greet him along with Gram and grandpa and brothers, what a happy thought. Much love to you all and many prayers, your niece and cousin Jean.

As a child, I would play with matchbox cars and try to announce like Cal. I remember my father taking me up in the tower at Penn Can to meet him -- one of my childhood heroes. Imagine growing up wanting to be a race track announcer because of the amazing example of Cal. And, then fast forward to a career in motorsports broadcasting.
And, along the way what a thrill to get to know the man...a man that I admired more as an adult than I did as a star-struck child. What an amazing man and I'm glad he was a friend. My prayers are with the family, there is a hole in my world this week and I can't imagine the loss to those who were with him on a regular basis.

Cal was an amazing man! He was a great neighbor. When we would go on vacation, we would call him to let him know, and he'd say: OK, I'll keep the gun loaded! We could always count on him to call us to let us know of interesting goings on in the sky, too! He was a true gentleman, and really took care of us. If there was an accident or bad road conditions, he would be out there directing traffic. He was a great example to our boys and we will miss him!
