Richard CHILES Obituary

HAMPTON - MSgt. Richard Ray Chiles (U.S. Air Force retired), 79, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.
He was born in Springfield, Ohio, and was a resident of Hampton for 39 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Audrey T. Chiles; children, Robert Borchardt of Newport News, Julie Forrest of Poquoson, Andrew Chiles of Hampton, Kevin Chiles and Jan Chiles, both of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Maryann Foley and brother, Tom Chiles, both of Springfield, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Richard served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. His service included tours during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Following his retirement in 1975 from the Air Force, he began a career working civil service at Ft. Eustis, where he was a computer specialist. He retired again as a supervisor, in 1999, after 25 years. Richard loved to play golf weekly with his friends, Jimmy and Paul. He was an avid reader and loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions, in Richard's honor, to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., in Hampton, 757-723-3191. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
