John J. Mazza
1927 - 2012 PITTSFIELD John Joseph Mazza, 84, of 85 Stoddard Ave., Pittsfield, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 30, 1927, son of Joseph and Alice Bulletti Mazza, he was educated in Cheshire and Pittsfield schools. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Mazza was employed as a meat cutter at the former Berkshire Beef for more than 30 years, and has also worked part-time at Wohrle's Foods. He retired in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Charles Church and had been a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He enjoyed golfing and yard work. His family was his greatest joy in life.
Mr. Mazza's wife, the former Gloria M. Tonoli, whom he married Oct. 15, 1949, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, died Aug. 10, 2011.
Mr. Mazza is survived by two daughters, Shirley A. Keyes and her husband, Robert, of Pittsfield, and Sandra M. Whalen and her husband, Mark, of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Robbie Keyes, Jessica Whalen, Shane Whalen, and Ashley Keyes; seven great-grandchildren, Quenten, Mackenzie, Lanashia, Michael, Tamia, Tiana, and Jayce; as well as two sisters, Hazel Mazza of Pittsfield and Inez Denning of Dalton; brother-in- law, Joseph Rossin, and nephew, Gary Rossin.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dora Rossin, and a nephew, Brian Denning.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for John Joseph Mazza will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Mazza may be made to St. Charles Church in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.

I worked with John at Berkshire Beef in the way back in the 1965 timeframe as one the the truck drivers. He was just someone that I always remembered fondly. A true professional and always a true gentleman. My sympathy to his family.
