Beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin Travis Joshua Kraus, 28, of Thousand Oaks passed away 12/12/12.
He was born December 4, 1984, the son of Linn and Jennifer (Hahn) Kraus. He grew up in Thousand Oaks, attended University Elementary School, Redwood Intermediate School, and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2002. Travis was a candidate to graduate with a bachelor's degree in May of 2013 at California State University Channel Islands, majoring in Communications.
Travis had a calling for the ocean, a love of travel, and a raw zest for life. His passion for surfing and reverence of the water prepared him to be an awe-inspiring member of the TOHS water polo team. He studied abroad in Germany, building many international friendships. While exploring the region, he learned to speak the language.
Travis had a boy-ish charm that had a way of melting the hearts of those around him, particularly women, children, and the elderly. He was beautiful, strong, vibrant and charismatic, with a heart as big as the ocean and his presence larger than life; forever creating a lasting impression on the lives of those he touched. Gone but never forgotten, your kindred spirit lives eternally within our hearts.
Travis is survived by his parents Linn and Jennifer Kraus; his brother, Dustin; and his sister, Maegan. He also leaves his paternal grandmother, Barbara Kraus, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his much-loved "four-legged sisters" Maggie, Gracie, Frenchie and Dixie; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the United States. Travis is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Frank and Audrey Hahn; his paternal grandfather Stuart Kraus; and his uncle Joe Kraus.
Travis' Memorial Services and Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Conejo Mountain Funeral Home & Memorial, located at 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, 93012. As this is a celebration of his life, the family asks that attire for the event be colorful, like Travis. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to: Surfrider Spirit Sessions Catching Waves & Changing Lives (surfspirit.org/donate) or Canoga Park Salvation Army ARC (21375 Rosco Blvd. Canoga Park, CA 91304).

Travis was such an awesome person. I just found out tonight. I know it has been five years nearly since his death, but I had no idea. We were friends up until his death and I had no idea until now. I actually hoped he had moved or found a girl to love and that is why he stopped contacting me or responding. I had moved to San Diego. It is so hard to believe that he died this way. I did not know him except as a strong loving water polo playing guy with a family and mom to be jealous of! I hope everyone remembers him that way. He was vibrant and a great guy. Truly one of a kind.

Dear Kraus family,
I am so terribly sorry to hear about your loss. During the time I lived in Thousand Oaks, Travis was a great friend to me. In fact, my only friend. Since I live in Las Vegas now, I happened to be at my grandmas house across the street from yours and she apparently told my mom she thought something happened to Travis.
I last saw Travis in Newport a few years ago, he is very missed I am sure. Thank you for blessing me with the chance of knowing Travis, you are all in my prayers Jennifer. I am so sorry.

Dear Linn & Jen:
We were truly heart broken to learn of Travis' passing.
Sadly, we only heard of his passing after services were held. Had we known, of course we would have been there to share in his Celebration of Life and share a hug or two with Dear Friends in their time of sorrow.
You are both truly such wonderful parents ~ who give everything you have to those you love. I just bet Travis is telling God right now how very lucky he was to have you in his life.
Travis is at Peace now....and we pray Peace will soon find you as well.
Our Love and Prayers are with you Both,

I am sadder than words can express and so sorry for your loss. I know Travis was loved beyond measure. I only met Travis in person once, but still feel I know him a little through Maegan. I came to know Maegan well during the time she worked with my son Kyle, and her brothers and family mean the world to her. I can only pray that all of you will somehow find the strength to heal and cherish the gift that his life was.

I had the pleasure of meeting your son while working at T.O P.F. Chang's. I have two young sons of my own and I can only hope they will have the same type of light and love that Travis possessed. I always tell my boys that they are on loan to me from God and one day he will want them to return. I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Travis was a good friend of mine in high school and we grew even closer afterwards with our special bond in seeing eachother at meetings. Your son taught me how to surf and helped me through my difficult times. He was the only man who called me his hero after completing an Ironman this year. That's what kind of person he was:kind, handsome, caring, and a real go getter! xoxo

Hi Mr and Mrs Kraus- I don't know if you remember me or not but Iwas Dustin's tenth grade history teacher. Even though I didn't have Travis in my class, I still "knew" Travis through Dustin. It was funny but Travis and I would run into each other at random times. I saw him at a grocery store before he left for Germany- he was sooo excited about traveling in Europe and I was a little jealous of him for being able to do that. The last time I saw Justin was this year when I had called to have some furniture picked up by the Salvation Army. You can imagine my surprise when Travis jumped out of the truck and immediately began to talk about what he was doing with his life. I was so proud that he was going to school and working on his degree. I am truly sorry for your loss. He was a special person.
