Mary "Vesla" VIKEN
December 17 1933 - January 12 2013
Mary was born in Grimstad Norway on December 17th, 1933 and passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on January 12th, 2013. She immigrated to the United States after the war; residing in Minnesota, North & South Dakota eventually arriving in Ballard where she met her husband Hans who was visiting his uncle from Norway. Mary like so many other Norwegians was very proud of her heritage and was instrumental in founding the Leikarringen of Leif Erikson Lodge dance club. In her retirement, she was active making and sewing traditional bunad's which she sold at various bazaars. During these events, people would ask her if she could mend their cofta's and she always did. This past summer she travelled to Norway with her grandson Hans to introduce him to his relatives and to experience the beauty of her treasured homeland Norway. Mary was a gentle and caring person who always put others before herself. She leaves behind many friends at Ballard First Lutheran, Leif Erikson Lodge and Norway Park.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hans and son David. Mary is survived by her son Ricky, daughter Christine (BJ), grandsons: Hans & Jack. Nephews Trond ( Bibi) Tord, sister in law Greta Roken in Brandbu Norway. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Ballard First Lutheran Church. Memorial services will me held at Ballard First Lutheran Church on Friday, January 18th at 1:00 pm. Arrangements entrusted to Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home
