LEE HAROLD Obituary

HAROLD LEE WISE, 64

Harold Lee Wise, 64, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on January 21, 2013. He was born in Gainesville, FL on December 26, 1948. He grew up in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1966.

Harold was a professional surveyor who worked in the Gainesville area his whole life. He loved Florida history and always tied the stories he heard (and told) to the land and its history. He was lucky to have a profession that he loved. He was a highly respected expert in his field.

Harold enjoyed reading and watching Gator football when he wasn't outdoors - making memories. He loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting, camping...just being outdoors. Oh, the stories he could tell!!!!

Harold is survived by his wife of 15 years, Mary Tweed Wise, his three children, Zachary Wise, Adam Wise and Haley Wise Carter (Leonard); his 3 grandchildren, Thor and Laura Wise and Leo Carter. He has a grandson, Logan Carter due next month. He is also survived by his sister Jeanne Wise, a niece and 2 nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Raleigh and Joan Wise and his brother, Walt Wise.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on January 24th at Orange Hill Cemetary in Williston. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday January 26th at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 1738 W. University Avenue, Gainesville, FL. Parking for the celebration is in the parking lot behind the church. Friends and family attending the service or the celebration are welcome to dress the way Harold recommended - camo or fishing clothes. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Forest Meadows Funeral Home.

Donations may be given to the E.T. York Hospice Haven or the St. Augustine Catholic Church, both in Gainesville, FL.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wise family. Gainesville not only lost a great surveyor, but a truly compassionate man for life, family, and surveying as well. It is without a doubt, a great, yet memorable pleasure to have worked with Mr. H....
He will be missed.

I was blessed to have Harold as a mentor and friend. His eagerness to teach and pass on his knowledge of sectional surveys made every job exciting. The world has lost a gifted and talented surveyor.

Thank you harold for everything you taught me. I will see to it that PSM 3456 continues on thru my work and work ethic. You stayed in touch long after my leaving and I am grateful for our talks.

I know you're proving corners in heaven. Rest my friend and God bless.

We lost one of the best surveyors in Florida with Harold's passing. He will be missed by our profession and by his friends.

I've known him since 1972 and he was a great friend and always willing to lend a hand or a professional opinion.

God Bless you my friend.

I'm going to miss you old friend. Many were the times we discussed surveying issues or as you were fond of saying "hashed them out". I learned more about surveying in my 40 years of knowing you (since 1972) than any college education could teach.

Sweet dreams old friend and may you find many corners needing proving in heaven.

I am so sorry that Harold is gone. We will miss him!! He was a character in his own right. When we worked together he used to walk around the office with the turkey caller in his mouth, practicing all day. First time I heard him say excitedly that he had "dug up a witness" my mind went "what??" He was talking about digging up an old tree stump to prove a corner. He was one heck of a surveyor. He was a good man; a man of his word. He loved his wife, his children and his grandchildren. We will miss him!

Oh Harold....the stories we could tell!!! Maybe we will just keep them safe with the secrets of the Class of 1966. Guess you, Bobby and Emery are already doing some fishing and "tall" story telling.
Mary please know that you and family are in my thoughts and many prayers.
Love to you all,
Sandy Haddock

So sad to hear about Harold. I have known him since 1997. We found out at that time that we shared the same birthday as well as both of us being born at AGH.
