formerly of Fitchburg
SOUTHPORT, CT -- Francis (Frank) Joseph Charlton 86, died Jan. 30 at home in Southport, CT. He was a former 30 year resident of Westport, CT.
He was born on April 29, 1926 in Fitchburg, MA, the third of seven children to the late Kathleen and Francis Charlton. He was married to and well-cared for by Jay Charlton, his loving, red-headed wife of 53 years.
After graduating from St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg, MA, Frank served in the U.S. Navy at the tender age of 17. Because of the G.I. Until last year, he was a magistrate judge in Norwalk and Bridgeport.
Frank had a quick wit and loved entertaining his family and friends with his sweet Irish tenor voice. Frank was often seen sitting in his favorite chair reading the daily papers while watching sports; he especially supported the New England teams and women's sports. He also loved playing golf at Longshore in Westport and was very proud of shooting two holes-in-one over his golfing career.

Dear Jay,
Thank you for Frank. He was a definite bright light in my life. He had a way of making you feel special. He had a certain twinkle in his eyes. You are a lucky woman for having HIM in your life. I remember He came to my house for a picnic with the girls from the office of SJK&B. (Actually He as the only guy invited.)
Thanks for the memories !!

Frank was such a kind, warm and cheerful presence in this world that he will long be remembered by all who were blessed by his goodness. Surely his light now shines bright in heaven as it did on earth.

I will miss Frank's quick wit and insightfull legal analysis of both complex and simple matters. He knew and cared for people and they returned that care to him. I will miss him.

Hi Uncle Frank!
Well, it's been a long time. I have the best of memories coming to visit as a teen. You were loving, kind and devilish and there were many times that I was not sure how to take the sense of humor. You did spend lots of time reading the "What's black and white and read all over?" I have a photo or two from one of my visits and you are doing just that? Good Times!
I know you have been having rough times as of late. I only hope that as you look down on us all, you spread the peace that you have now achieved and let those closest to you know that everything thing is all right. :)
Aunt Jay,Craig, Susan and Kathy~~I really don't have enough words to express my sorrow to you. Time does heal somewhat, but the ache is always there.
In closing, I leave the lyrics to a ditty that will remind me of you:
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
LOVE~~~~~

Hi Uncle Frank!
It's been awhile, but my East Coast relatives are always in my heart. I have loving and fond memories of you. You were always cracking one liners and teasing and there were times, I wasn't sure if you were pulling my leg or not. When I visualize you, I DO see you sitting in a chair reading a newspaper. I have a picture from one of my visits as a teen and you are doing just so with a BIG smile on your face. We were BBQing. I always enjoyed visiting you.
You were kind, devilish and loving.
I know you had been having rough times of late and I can only hope that you are looking down on all of those who love you and letting them know that you are doing fine now. Your departure will leave a void.
Aunt Jay, Craig, Susan and Kathy--I don't have words to express my sorrow to you. Time does heal~~~but the heart never forgets
And one last thing~~
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow

And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I will hear your voice and remember when I hear this song! :)
