Marita Astrid Lisbeth Hackworth passed from this life and went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. Marita was born in Tradet, Sweden on September 22, 1946, to Hilmer and Astrid Gustaffson. Marita grew up in Sweden and upon graduation from high school, went to work at a local hospital. After a couple of years, she came to the United States, but traveled back to Sweden to visit family frequently. When asked why she came to the U.S., she would reply, "I wanted to travel, and it was too cold for me in Sweden."
On coming back from a trip to Sweden in 1969, she met Gary Hackworth. Gary and Marita dated for a year and on June 6, 1970, they were married. Marita worked at Vienna Convalescent Hospital and at Bakers Nursery before she decided to become an RN. After graduating with her license, she worked at Lodi Memorial Hospital and then went to work for Delta Blood Bank, where she was still employed when the Lord called her home.
Marita enjoyed fishing, hiking, and camping with friends and family. Marita also loved animals, especially cats. She was particularly fond of "Ivy Marie", a little abandoned cat she found that she had to feed with a bottle for 6 weeks until she was able to eat solid food.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ingvar, as well as her father and mother in law, Orville and Mildred Hackworth. She is survived by Gary Hackworth, her husband of 43 years, sister, Ingegerd (Jon) Wallin, brother, Johnny Gustaffson, and many loved nieces and nephews in Sweden, sister in law, Virginia Meneely of Lodi, brothers in law, Frank (Wanda) Hackworth of Grants Pass, OR and Richard (Sharla) Hackworth of Bowling Green, KY, nephews, Scott and Todd Kemper, and many other loved nieces, nephews, and cousins in Lodi, Oregon, Kentucky, and Ohio.
Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from Noon until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. with committal to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the PALS Animal Shelter, 1040 W. Kettleman Lane, Ste. 379, Lodi, CA 95240. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

My thoughts are with you Gary.

For so many years I've enjoyed seeing Marita at Delta Blood Bank in Lodi. She probably didn't realize how many people's lives she touched. And, how many people loved her.
