Herbert A. Anderson
1929-2013
Herb Anderson was a proud San Francisco native, the son of Herbert and Norma. He grew up in Precita Park, attended Mission high school and was a long time resident of the Portola District for over 50 years.
Herb owned and operated Anderson & Doherty Sheet Metal Works. The two projects he was most proud of were the top of the Transamerica building and the Marin Civic Center building. Herb was also a teacher and mentor in the Sheet Metal apprenticeship program. He was also an Usher at St Elizabeth's parish for many years.
Herb served his country overseas in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. This was his only time spent away from his beloved city by the bay. He enjoyed sailing the San Francisco Bay as well as scuba diving for abalone. He also enjoyed boxing with his sons. His life was complete after World Series victories by the San Francisco Giants and the Super Bowl wins by his much-loved San Francisco 49ers.
Her is survived by Joan, his loving wife of 58 years and three children (spouses), Herbert (Sandie), Kevin (Valerie) and Regina (Janet) and granddaughters Amanda and Paige. He is survived by his younger brother Roy and predeceased by brothers Bill, Charlie and Freddie and sister Pat. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit after 4pm Thursday and are invited to attend the Vigil Service Thursday 7pm and the Funeral Liturgy Friday 11:30am from the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co, 4840 Mission St., Sf . It is great to see the tributes from the Doherty family. My Dad spent a good portion of his life with Ed at the shop. He would be very proud to hear the positive impact he had on the Doherty family.
