Robert "Bob" Ely Wright Freeman, 88, died May 6, 2013, at the Hay-Madeira Hospice. He was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., and lived most of his life in Westfield, N.J., Normandy Beach, N.J., and Stuart. He attended Princeton University in 1943 as part of the V-12 Naval Officers Training Program, as well as Harvard University, and graduated from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He served in the Navy during World War II, reaching the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He was stationed aboard the attack supply ship USS Mercury assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and participated in numerous campaigns. The ship received five battle stars for World War II service, and he was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was president of Couse Manufacturing of Union, N.J., CEO of Roberts Equipment Company of Piscataway, N.J., and CEO of W&H Systems of Carlstadt, N.J. He also owned and operated a luncheonette after the war in Union called the Peppermint Lounge. He was member and past president of Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, member and past commodore of Normandy Beach Yacht Club and past president of the Winged Foot Cottages Association of Stuart. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Union, N.J. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia "Ginny"; sons, Bruce and Jon Freeman; daughter, Cathy Tomlinson; brother, Bruce Freeman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, American Cancer Association or The Chapel at Mariner Sands, 6500 Mariner Sands Drive, Stuart, FL 34997. Services: A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. May 18 at Mariner Sands, Stuart. A guestbook is available at www.heavencalled.com.
