Howard R. Kanniard, 78, of Marengo died Wednesday (May 15, 2013) in the Marion General Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1934, in Westfield to the late John S. and Adah M. (Claypool) Kanniard.
Dick was a 1954 graduate of Elm Valley High School and then served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a machinist at H.P.M. and Marion Power Shovel and ran an auto repair business at his home. He was a member of the Central Ohio National Road Good Sam's Club, Chapter # 14. Dick was a well-known "practical joker" and liked nothing more than pulling a joke on his family and friends.
Survivers include Dick's children: Ronald "Ronnie" Kanniard of Cardington, Lucille "Lucy" Kanniard and Becky Garcia, both of Delaware; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; companion, Nancy Ray of Marengo; brothers and sisters, Irene Kanniard of Ashley, Staca Eugene of Johnstown, Maxine Hienz of Orrville, Harold Kanniard of Bradford, Catherine (Fred) Craley of Granville, Evelyn Headrick of Waldo, Ruth Davis of Edison, Dorothy (Dick) Hill of Jacksonville, Fla., Pauline (Dave) Davis of Columbus, and Bill Kanniard of Ashley and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday May 17, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. Dick's funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home and the burial will follow in Ashley Cemetery with full military honors.
