Raymond A. Brown Jr., Esq. died May 9, 2013. Born Aug. 15, 1952, in Hampton, S.C., to Laura (Early) and the late Raymond Brown Sr., Mr. Brown lived in Newark, N.J., for almost all of his life. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1977 and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He received a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in 1981 in political science, with a focus on international relations, and subsequently attended Rutgers Law School of Newark, where he earned his juris doctorate degree in 1984. Mr. Brown avidly followed local, national and international news, and enjoyed discussing current events and geopolitical affairs. In 2011, due to his recent illness, he retired from the law practice he founded in 1987, Raymond A. Brown Jr., P.C. Affectionately called "Al" by his family, he was a loving husband, devoted father, and truly dedicated to his entire family. A private person, Al had few but very close friends. Preceded in death by his father, Raymond, and brother, Daniel, he is survived by his wife, Yvette; mother, Laura, and sister, Jennifer Fisher (Rafe) of Perth Amboy, N.J.; brother, David Brown of Newark, N.J.; children, LaRaye Brown of Newark, Nimaako Brown of Harlem, N.Y.; son Raymond A. Kamau Brown III of Hummelstown, Pa.; grandson, Steven Jace Copeland II; goddaughter, Zakiyah Caldwell, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
