Maurice L. Pendelton
Maurice L. "Maurie" Pendelton, 77, of Lafayette, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 2:45 p.m. Born June 24, 1935 in New Richmond, IN, he was the son of the late Paul and Ruth (Conner) Pendleton. Maurie graduated from Wea High School in 1953 and attended Purdue University for two years. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a medic, spending two years in Germany.
Maurie married Barbara Fleming in 1957 in Williamsport, IN. She preceded him in death in 1994. He married Sondra "Sandy" (Hinckley) Hayes on June 26, 1999 in Lafayette and she survives. He was a route man for Omar and Wonder Bread Companies, a truck driver with Overland and Remington Truck Lines and for Schilli Transportation, retiring in 2001. He was active in Men's and Mixed bowling leagues in Lafayette, enjoyed playing golf, and collecting toy tractors. He was a member of VFW Post # 1154, Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post in Fowler, and the 40 & 8 Voiture.
Surviving with his wife are six daughters: Lynnette Hayenga of Delphi, Vickie Yost and Kim Lawson (husband, Jeff) both of Lafayette, Belinda Snowberger (husband, Jimmy) of Delphi, Crissy King (husband, Robert) of Idaville, and Marcia Hood (husband, Bruce) of Brazil, IN; a son Mark Pendleton of West Lebanon, IN; a brother Richard Pendleton (wife, Kelty) of Lafayette; and two sisters Virginia Poynter of Lafayette and Inez Saum (husband, David) of Columbus, MS. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Dwight Pendleton, granddaughter Annjanette Hood, grandson Nicholas Kendall, and three son-in-laws, David Sizemore, Michael Hayenga, and Mark Yost.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Randall Griffith officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Dialysis or Heartland Ambulance Service.
