Jean "Jeannie" Mizel "Jeannie" passed away peacefully June 20, 2013, of pneumonia after a nine-month struggle with lung cancer, at Wellington Hospital, London, England. She was 46. She leaves her beloved husband and devoted caregiver, Mark J. Stideford of London, England; her adoring parents, Ann and Barney Mizel of Mill Valley, her brother, John Mizel (Lisa Walsh) of Maui, Hawaii; her grandmother, Dorothy Berelson of Tiburon; a great aunt, Hannah Samuels of San Francisco; two aunts, Barbara Lambert of Novato and Marjory Woolf of Los Angeles; an uncle, Garrett Golden of Sacramento; and cousins Joan Trapkin of San Francisco, Debra Platt of Shingle Springs, Calif., and Marc Ialeggio of Mill Valley; her father-in-law and his wife, Colin and Sue Stideford of Plympton, England, her dear sister-in-law, Katie Wakefield (Tom Owen) of Harbertonford, England, her brother-in-law, Paul Stideford (Amy Carter) of Plymouth, England; her brother-in-law, Matthew Strode (Maia) of Bridgeport, Conn., and her oldest and dearest friend, Julia Wood Sheehan of Santa Cruz, Calif. Jeannie missed her late grandfather, Edwin T. Golden of San Francisco and her late mother-in-law, Sue Wakefield of Devon, England. The family greatly appreciates the care provided by her London physicians--surgeon, Mr. Steven Edmondson and oncologist, Doctor Paula Wells, as well as the compassionate and skilled nursing care provided by the staff at Wellington Hospital. A life-long animal lover, Jeannie doted on her Siberian Husky, Gigi, whom she rescued and brought back to life and who offered her "Mum" great solace in her last months -- never leaving her side. Jeannie grew up in San Francisco and attended Hamlin School before moving to Mill Valley with her family. She graduated from Marin Country Day School and Tamalpais High School and received her bachelor's degree in art history from Dominican College (now Dominican University) in San Rafael, Calif. She pursued her studies at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, and at Teign Valley Glass in Devon, England. A talented artist, she worked in glass and mosaic. She was a passionate world traveler, and a kind and gentle soul who touched many lives along her way. She will be greatly missed. Donations in Jeannie's memory may be sent to the Jean Mizel Scholarship Fund for Art History, at Dominican University of California, 50 Acacia Ave., San Rafael, Calif., 94901, Attn: Advancement Office. Gifts can also be made by phone to Kimberly Richter, (415) 257-1396. A memorial service was held in London and a service will be held in San Francisco at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Congregation Emanu-El, 2 Lake St. (entrance on Arguello Blvd.).

I knew Jeanie when she and Mark lived in the Toluca Lake, CA area. She was a very warm, bright, sweet, funny and unique human being and I am grateful to have known her. Deeply saddened to have come across this now, so many years since her passing. She is surely gracing heaven now and forever. Peace and blessings to Jeanie, Mark and their friends and family.

My deepest sympathies for the loss of Jeannie. It has been many years since i last saw Jeannie, but remember well our last visit. Jeannie and I went to the Marin Cinema to see Star Wars.
She was fun to be with and had a great sense of humor. i'm sure she will be missed by all that knew her.

You were the official/unofficial photographer of the Tam Wrestling Team. You did only have one of us, but I wish it had been me. Apparently you went all the way to England and found what you were looking for, to create a realm of Art. Om Mani Peme Hung.
