John Billy Mims, 88, of Shalimar, Fla., peacefully passed away of natural causes on Sunday, June 30, 2013, under the care of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Mr. Mims proudly served his country for over half a century in various capacities including the Merchant Marines during World War II, and the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War, and completed three tours in Vietnam. After retiring in the Fort Walton Beach area as a highly decorated chief master sergeant, he continued to serve his country, completing a career in civil service in positions at Duke Field, Hurlburt Field, and Eglin Air Force Base.
Mr. Mims, a loving husband and father, is survived by his wife, Jeannette; his son, John; and daughters, Brenda and Cathy. He will be dearly missed by friends and loved ones alike.
A memorial service will be held on July 11, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
