Ann Linda Clarke Phillips

Ann Linda Clarke Phillips died peacefully at home on July 6, 2013. She was 66 years old. Ann was born in Modesto, California on September 19, 1946 to James Robert Clarke and Sylvia Jane Matthews Clarke. She attended Enslen Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School and was part of the first graduating class of Grace Davis High School in 1964. Ann went on to Arizona State University where she earned her BA in Art & Design. After graduation, she moved to New York where she worked as a fabric designer and colorist. Eventually, Ann returned to home to Modesto where she began work in sales at Alfred Matthews Inc., the family business. She moved up through the ranks into marketing and eventually became a partner. Ann married Richard Alan Phillips on Sept 3, 1991. Ann loved her friends and family, skiing, gardening, her bulldogs, laughing, animal prints, sparkles, shopping, gift giving, nick names and visiting their condo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She retired from Alfred Matthews Inc. in 1997. Ann was a past member of Modesto Rotary, served on boards for the Memorial Hospital Foundation and the YMCA. She was a member of Del Rio Country Club.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents James Robert and Sylvia Jane Clarke. She is survived by her husband Richard Phillips, sister Susan Jane Clarke Filippi (Elvio), aunt Felice Matthews Corby Bennett, niece Laura Filippi Veldhuis (Ray Gene) and children Drew and Evan Smith, nephew Clarke Filippi (Stacey) and children Joshua and Madeline, brother and sister in law Bob & Carole Phillips, nephew Jeff Phillips (Holly) and children Sam, Stella and Benjamin, niece Lisa Phillips Armour (Chase) and children Bear and Charlie, cousins Barbara Bennett Kroll (Bob), Christine Corby Samuel (Dwight), Matt Corby, Judy Mueting (Jerry), Mitchell Laing and finally by her faithful and loving companion and caregiver of many years, Matheia Guzman.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ann's memory to the McHenry Mansion, 924 14th Street, Modesto, CA 95354 or to the Children's Crisis Center, PO Box 1062, Modesto, CA 95353.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 15 at 2:00pm at Franklin & Downs at 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto.

Susan - I'm sorry hear about Ann's passing. Ann was a great neighbor and was always there for my family while growing up living next door in Modesto. We always appreciated Ann's laughter and sense of humor. She'll always be in our hearts. James Polis

We send our deepest sympathy to all of the family. We have the fondest memories of Ann with her energy, terrific sense of humor and vivaciousness. Fishing in her pond with our son and his friends are memories that will never be forgotten.
