Gertrude M. Schmieder
106, Appleton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Brewster Village. She was born on June 3, 1907 in Appleton to the late Fred and Louise (Maier) Schabo. Gert was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish. Her passion was volunteering. She volunteered at the Community Clothes Closet and Salvation Army for many years. She also worked at Tuttle Press and waitressed at the Elks Club prior to her marriage. In 1950 she married Frank Schmieder and he preceded her in death in 1975.
Survivors include her step-son, Robert (Katy) Schmieder, Appleton; step-grandchildren: Steve Schmieder, Catherine 'CC' Nesvig, Robert 'Bob' Schmieder, James 'Jed' Schmieder, Mary 'Mimi' Robertson, William 'Willy' Schmieder and Martha 'Mardi' Larson; 12 step-great grandchildren; 13 step-great great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brothers: Fred, Frank, Lawrence, George and Aaron; sisters: Elizabeth, Lucille and Helen.
A Mass of Resurrection for Gert will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (222 E. Fremont St.) Appleton with Rev. Rene Balbero officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may visit the family on Tues. at church from 9:30 am until the time of mass. A memorial fund is being established.

Gertrude was certainly a memorable person from my time at Sacred Heart Parish. I will have a Mass for her here at the hospital in La Crosse.

Dear Bob & Katy,
Please accept my condolences on the passing of Gertrude. She did a wonderful job of living. I can only hope to do, to some degree, as well as she did.
I hope the two of you are doing fine. I am still hanging in there.
