Mr. Sidney "Sid" Edward Cofield, age 83, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jon Price will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at the funeral home.
Sid was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Jackson County, the son of the late Willie Cofield and Ethel (Sealy) Cofield. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a medic at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was retired from Beers Construction Co. in Atlanta as a brick mason, moving to Gainesville following his retirement. Sid and Betty built their home, where he began gardening and raising blueberries. He was a member of Free Chapel Worship Center and attended faithfully. He led a life dedicated to serving the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Stockton; and brothers, Clifford Cofield and Walter (Bill) Cofield.
He leaves behind a family of survivors who will miss him dearly, his loving wife of 57 years, Betty (Gailey) Cofield of Gainesville; siblings, Hoyt Cofield of Jefferson, Jennie and Frank Stockton of Braselton, Nellie Watkins of Maysville, Bonnie Elrod and Linda Cofield of Commerce, Brenda and Gary Langford of Bremen, Agnes and Lester Prickett of Thomasville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
