WEED

Donald Nile Weed passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas on July 11, 2013 from COPD at the age of 75. Don is predeceased by his mother Lillie Mae Hollinsworth Weed, father Nile Weed, Brother Roy Truman Weed (Truman), Sister Estelline Sythie Merritt, and daughter Donna Weed.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Bonnie Weed. They were married in San Antonio, Texas on December 29, 1975.
Don is lovingly remembered by his daughter Alexandra Rae Weed and her husband Roger Torres of San Antonio, Tx, daughter Tina Marie Braun of San Antonio, Tx, daughter Cindy Lu Weed of Crystal City, Tx, brother Kenneth Weed of White Oak, Tx, sister Carolyn Mendolia and her husband Ron Mendolia of Aledo, Tx, sister Norma Eling of Muskegon, MI, and by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to the Nurses and Staff at Odyssey Hospice of San Antonio; we'd like to specifically mention Kendra Wright, Charles Camacho, and Charlene Valdez for their compassionate and considerate care of our father and husband.
Don was born in Monahans, Texas on March 28, 1938. He graduated from Saint Jo High School in 1958 as Captain of the Panthers Football Team, he went on to work at General Dynamics of Fort Worth, Texas, the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill where he met his wife Bonnie and retired from Southwest Research Institute in 1997 as a Composites Supervisor in the Department of Material Sciences. He continued to work with SWRI as a consultant for several years thereafter. His proudest achievement at SWRI was the development of an artificial limb that helped children with Cerebral Palsy be able to eat more independently. While working at General Dynamics he developed the composite tube-fabrication technology.
Don enjoyed reading and learning about history, theology, and government. Additionally he enjoyed working on home improvement projects specifically ones that would help his family with daily life. One of his favorite past times was telling stories and sitting around just conversing with family and friends.
Don's wishes were to be cremated with no official services to be performed. In his memory his family will have a memorial on August 03, 2013 from 11am-2pm to be held at V.F.W. Post 9174 located at 2410 Pinn Rd San Antonio, Texas.
