WHITEWRIGHT - Billy Jack Bond was born Sept. 26, 1943 in Sherman to Howard and Marguerite (Basinger) Bond and passed from this life on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his home in Whitewright.
Billy was raised in Sherman and joined the United States Navy after high school. Billy spent a career that spanned more than 25 years of active service and five years with the fleet reserve. Upon his retirement on July 1, 1990, his rank was Chief Petty Officer. Billy was involved in many organizations: He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15045 and the American Legion. He was a former volunteer fireman and EMT. In Tampa, Fla. He was VA counselor, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 110 in Hillsborough County, Fla. Billy enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, building computers and loved being with his family.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Rolen and her husband, Dan Jr. of Sherman, and Claudia Reed and her husband Joe of Gunter; grandchildren, Dan Lee Rolen, III, Shelby Lynn Rolen, Chris Rolen, Danielle Rolen; and great-granddaughter, Willow Gray all of Sherman; and Clint Gerron Reed and Jacob Reed both of Gunter; brother, David Bond and his wife Judy of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and a niece, Danielle Bond of Town and Country, Fla.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home. Services to celebrate Billy's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Hawkins officiating. Committal services will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Dan Lee Rolen, Jr., Dan Lee Rolen, III, Christopher Daniel Rolen, Joe Keith Reed, Clint Gerron Reed and Jacob Keith Reed serving as pallbearers.

So sorry to learn of Bill's passing. We were classmates at SHS in the same graduating class. He was a really nice person and I enjoyed knowing him.
