John Aggson, 75, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, passed away at the emergency room of the Colorado Plains Medical Center on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was with his loving wife of 47 years, Sue Aggson. John was a lifelong resident of Fort Morgan, born to Roger and Amelia "Sweetie" Aggson on October 12, 1937. On Wednesday afternoon, he was reunited with his family including his parents and siblings, Robert Aggson, Sara Christensen, and Jim Aggson — we're sure it was quite a celebration.
John was a graduate of Fort Morgan High School in 1955 and then entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, missing Elvis by a day. After his discharge, he returned to Colorado and enrolled at Colorado State College (UNC, Greeley) for a brief time and returned to Fort Morgan. John joined his father in business and upon his father's death, he became owner of Ready Cool Radiator Service in 1970. For 31 years, John served the community and fixed radiators from near and far, often ending with out of town visitors at the dinner table. He took the opportunity to share his knowledge and skills of both work and life with the young men that worked with him. In addition to his business, John was a member of the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department from 1961 - 1984. He was an active and dedicated member of the department and took great pride in his service and the lifelong friendships that were formed. John was an active member of the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church, where he was known as the "Candy Man." John was able to volunteer and serve on committees to support his faith and others in the congregation. Upon retiring, John kept busy as a part time employee of the Morgan County Landfill, became a mentor in the Big Brother organization, and was a "social" member of the Elks Lodge #1143.
On June 18, 1966, John married Suzan Perry in Bismarck, North Dakota. The two shared 47 years of joy, laughter, tears, Bronco games, golf, cards with family and friends. Family gatherings were a special occasion for him. It was during those times that you could count on him to bring the cheapest beer and the most lively conversation starters and shared family stories. However, his greatest pleasure was sharing in the joys of his children, Erin and Roger. Life was good at the Aggson house where all were welcomed with genuine care and love.
John's memory will carry on through his family; wife, Sue; children, Erin and Chris Hurley of California, and Roger and Cindy Aggson of Oregon; grandsons, Riley, Nicholas and Zachary Aggson of Oregon; brothers-in-law, Jim Christensen of Brush and Steve Perry of North Dakota; sisters-in-law, Shirley Aggson of Berthoud, Shari Aggson of Grand Junction, and Myria Perry of North Dakota; nephews and nieces, Shawn and Patti Christensen, Scott Christensen, Mike Aggson, Susie Aggson, all of Denver, Carly Aggson of Grand Junction, Jeff and Aey Aggson of Thailand; Matthew and Amanda Perry and Stephanie and Aaron Hayden, all of North Dakota; great- nephews and nieces, Kyle, Bryson, Megan, and Taylor Christensen, Adriana Kohlenberg and Tia and Tyler Aggson. He is also survived by his "coffee buddies" of 50 years - and his number is 1!
A service to celebrate John's life will be Monday, August 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in the Serenity Falls Columbarium. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department or to the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church, both c/o the Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701.

Suzan, Erin, & Roger, please accept my deepest condolences on the occasion of your husband/father's death. I'll ask Roger to introduce me to you; he and I are Pumpkin Ridge associates here in Oregon, and though our friendship has been relatively brief, I consider us close friends and share his sorrow over his father's passing. Many years ago I also received a phone call from home 3000 miles away advising of my father's fatal heart attack and the pain of that memory has never left me. You and your family are in my prayers, and I wish you a swift and lasting measure of peace that only time can provide. God bless you.
