James P. Mitchell, 72, of Brockton, died Aug. 15, 2013, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Raised in Milton, he was a 1958 graduate of Milton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Boston Gear in Quincy for 30 years and later retired in 2006 from Haemonetics in Braintree. An expert gardener, he also enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling with friends and after his retirement enjoyed bird watching. A devoted family man and proud grandfather, he loved spending time with his family, especially babysitting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was the son of the late James and Anna (Keegan) Mitchell; beloved husband of Katherine M. (Lunt) Mitchell for 51 years; loving father of Karen Tuplin and her husband Jack of Raynham, Kristin Crawford and her husband Brian of Taunton and Kim Lanagan and her husband Jim of Raynham; grandfather of Megan Mitchell, Luke Tuplin, Jacob Crawford, Mitchell Tuplin, Joey Crawford, Carson Lanagan, Ian Tuplin and Quinn Lanagan; great-grandfather of Lily Mitchell; and the brother of Ann M. Levins of Quincy. All are welcome to calling hours Monday 5-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Chapel at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton. Funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Tuesday at 8 a.m., funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church, Brockton. Cremation and private committal. A sad time. Jim was a great guy, easy to meet and befriend. He was taken too soon, but on his own terms. He will be missed by all his AOC friends.
