Robert Chromik Obituary

CHROMIK

Robert J. Sr.

Robert John Chromik, Sr., 65, passed away on August 20, 2013, at his Springfield Township home surrounded by his immediate family after a

valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born April 14, 1948, in Toledo to Steve and Cecelia Chromik. Bob's goal to reach his 40th wedding anniversary to wife, Bonnie was fulfilled on May 14, 2013. A 1967 graduate of Calvin M. Woodward High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he received an honorable discharge. He continued serving his community when he was hired at the Lucas County Sheriff's Office in 1969, where he obtained numerous commendations and awards. Bob also trained with the United States

Department Of Justice's Bureau Of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and The Ohio Attorney Generals Office Of Criminal Identification and Homicide Investigation; to name a few. He received the Outstanding Officer Of The Year award in 1976. As a robbery/homicide detective he tirelessly devoted himself to serving the citizens of Lucas County by providing a voice for victims of crime. This commitment to the community continued after leaving law enforcement, as he wrote many letters on the behalf of deceased victims, when their perpetrators were up for parole. He chose to change his profession in 1980 and joined the Seaway Food Town Company, where his career focused on corporate security. He thoroughly enjoyed the day to day operations of a company that strived to serve the local area. After his career ended with Seaway Food Town due to a corporate transition, Bob began a vocation with the Department Of Homeland Security under the Transportation Security Administration out of Toledo Express Airport, which he truly enjoyed.

Throughout the years it was not uncommon to find Bob working on his boat and

enjoying time with many friends at Bay View Yacht Club. His passion for hunting and fishing continued into retirement. At home he

enjoyed working in his yard, and showing off his amazing home improvement skills. He never said "no" to a neighbor in need. His humor and common sense were just part of the charisma that

attracted a variety of friends that impacted his life in a positive way. He brought stability, joy, and laughter to those whose lives he touched. Bob remained a steadfast supporter and contact within the law enforcement community, and this continues today with his immediate family.

Surviving Bob are his wife of 40 years, Bonnie Warchol Chromik; children, Robert J. Chromik Jr., and Carolyn Chromik Sellers; favorite son-in-law, Robert Sellers; mother, Cecelia Chromik; brothers, Steve, Thomas, and James; brother-in-law, Bill Warchol. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Chromik. We would like to extend our gratitude to Annette Grzechowiak, Patty Miller, Bill Hughes, Mike Stinson, Lloyd Hammons, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Guisbert, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pribble, Susan Nichols, Becky Banghoff, Mr. and Mrs. Todd Reed, Mike Shrewsberry, Victor Baldarez, Sheriff John Tharp, James A. Telb, the personnel at the Lucas County Sheriff's Office,

Henschen And Associates, our wonderful neighbors, Dr. Hameed and the staff at the UTMC Dana Cancer Center, and all of our friends. Your unwavering support and assistance has been incredible. It not only comforted our immediate family, but Bob as well.

Family and friends may gather at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 10 - 11 a.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. I am sorry to hear of Bobs passing. He was instrumental in helping my family put my brother, jeff eitemiller, killer in prison and keep him there since jeff was killed in 1975. He told us he had a file on the case at his home and brought all the info to the last hearing in 2009 where he had just finished chemo and handed it to another dectective that bob wanted to keep up the fight. We will never forget all he has done for us. Prayers to his family!

Gary Tucker, our best friend, called to advise of Bob's passing. Gary and I both worked at FoodTown. I was in Loss Prevention for the southern region and had training from Bob when hired by Chuck North. Bob also assisted me in stake outs and I'll never forget his hilarious humor and professionalism. Bet he and Chuck are having quite a discussion right now! May the Lord wrap His arms around the whole family during your time of grief.

I was trully saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Our prayers go out to his wife and family. Back in the "day" Bob used to stop in at the TPD Detective Bureau during the midnight shift getting information from us on cases he was working on. He was always an upbeat peson, full of energy and a joy to be around. He will be missed but never forgotten.
