Nancy Carol May
(Nance, Grammy)
Of Upland, California, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 9/3/13 surrounded by her family. Nancy was born at the Green Memorial Hospital (Cottage) in Upland in 1947. She grew up in Pomona. She and her husband Mark raised her children Matt and Katie in Upland.
Nancy received her B.A., Teaching Credential and M.A. from Cal Poly Pomona. She taught business classes at Edgemont High School in Covina and was, for nearly 20 years, a 4th and 5th grade teacher at Magnolia Elementary in Upland.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother and sister, and a revered teacher. She was a gracious hostess and loved to cook and entertain family and friends. Nancy had a passion for riding in trains and that passion was inherited by her beautiful grandson David. Bird feeders surrounded her home so could watch all the wild birds. Nancy loved spending time with her dogs and cat; she treated them more like children.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mark, Brother-in-law Michael, children Mathew and Katie, Sister JoAnn and brother-in-law Steve, Brother Stephan and sister-in-law Jill, and the light of her life grandson David.
A celebration of life will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church at 600 N. Garey Ave in Pomona at 2p.m. the 14th of September followed by light refreshments in Pilgrim Hall.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Magnolia Elementary School at 465 W. 15th Street, Upland, CA 91786 in memory of Nancy May.

Our deepest sympathy goes to the May family. Mrs. May helped us get through the loss of our daughter, Hayley, one of her former students. Hayley loved her, as I'm sure many of those she taught did. Mrs. May was a tremendous person who will truly be missed.

A beautiful rose for a very beautiful lady -- Nancy May. Heaven has gained a new angel as Nancy joins Melanie Ann White as well as, loved ones of others whose journeys with all of us have come to an end. Nancy we thank you for the friendship that you shared with our family for so many years, which innocently began with you helping to make Melanie feel right at home when she was given the opportunity to share the gift of music with the Magnolia Elementary community starting in 1999. The energy and warmth that you shared with us never diminished especially during the year following Melanie's passing. Your unexpected visits to our home on several occasions were perfectly timed as those were days where I was struggling a bit in regaining my balance with the loss of the love of my life. Your timing was impeccable. With each visit, you came bearing such courage, compassion, love, heartfelt laughter, keen sense of humor, joyful tears, comforting hugs and warm smile. Rest in peace, Nancy May. You have touched and enriched so many lives over the years. Thanks for all that you shared!
In our hearts forever,
David White, Bridget White & Nick White

I am deeply saddened by the news of Nancy's passing. I have such fond memories of fun times with Nancy when we were young. I met her through mutual family friends when we were in elementary school (we attended different schools then) and we became good buddies in Jr. High at Emerson. Nancy was so much fun! My condolences to her life long love, Mark May, and to her brother Steven Plouff and sister Joanne. She will always be a shining star in heaven. Peace be with you.

Mrs. May, you will be TRULY missed. You gave Gabriella a whole new perspective on education, not to mention.. discipline. You are her “Favorite teacher of ALL time” she says. Her heart hurts for you … she cries and says she misses you very much but she knows you are now “gardening in Heaven”. Gabriella has this picture on her ipod as her screensaver. I hope you enjoy it as much as she does …. We miss you & I appreciate all you have done for my Gabby & all these students who got to enjoy your love for life. My thoughts & prayers go out to family & friends!

Our sincere condolence to the May Family. I knew Nancy 25 plus years as the wonderful and gracious person married to my friend Mark and mother of two kids I watched grow up as I was a frequent guest at Red Hill CC. and to the May residence. Many memorable and feisty times. Although I had not had contact with Nancy for some time, she will be missed. RIP friend.

Nancy was my second mother growing up as Katie was my best friend since grade school. My family lived on the other side of the U and I would always be over at the May's. Nancy treated all the kids like her own and i can still remeber she had the best junk drawer full of the best snacks. I will never forget her laughter and her smile. I love and miss you Nancy and will never forget all the times we had.
