Eileen Courtney
AGE: 60 • Somerset
Eileen Courtney (Veres), 60, passed away on September 13, 2013, after her battle with cancer. Born December 30, 1952, she resided in Somerset for 35 years after relocating from Avenel and attending Colonia High School.
Eileen was employed as the Director of Finance and HR for ID Care in Hillsborough. Eileen actively volunteered in many organizations over the years, but her proudest accomplishment was her work with the disabled and homeless veterans of war. She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and served District President in 2000/2001 and State President in 2006/2007.
Eileen is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, David Courtney of Edison, who lost his battle with cancer on December 25, 2011, and her father, Charles Veres. She is survived by her children, Christopher Courtney and wife Jennifer, and grandsons, Evan and Tyler of Somerset, Kevin Courtney and Kristen Keich of Bridgewater, and grandson Colin. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Carol Veres-Wrenn from Toms River, sisters, Valerie Plaska and Donna Thoma, and in-laws Rick Thoma, and Gayle and Allen Gersley. She is also loved by nieces and nephews, Jared, Jaime, Megan, and Remi Plaska, Chuck and Brittney Thoma, and Bryan, Toni, Timothy and Elizabeth Ruchdeschel.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Gleason funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. A Funeral service will begin at 10 AM on Friday at the funeralhome. The family will begin to greet guests at 9:15 AM on Friday. Interment will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Contributions in Mrs. Courtney's name may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Cancer Fund 406 West 34th Street, 10th Floor, Kansas City, MO 64111.
