EAST PEORIA - Gordon L. King, 83, of East Peoria passed away at 2:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on June 2, 1930, in Ripley, Tenn., the son of Walter E. and Agnes G. Gitchell King. He married Anna E. Combs on July 16, 1960, in Shawneetown, Ill.
Surviving are his wife and their three children, Dave (Lesa) King of Normal, Kris (Kirk) Ummel of Minier, Ill., and Cheryl (Jim) Hagedorn of East Peoria. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Gary Sutton, Greg Ummel, Sarah King, Mason King, Nathaniel Ummel, Grant Hagedorn and Cole Hagedorn. Further surviving are two brothers, Clarence (Helen) King and Cecil (Jean) King, both of Creve Coeur, Ill.
His parents, one sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
Gordon was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He then worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 35 years, last working in shipping before retiring in 1986.
He attended the Southern Baptist Church in Creve Coeur, enjoyed playing the guitar with his brothers and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills with the Pastor Don Nuttall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will follow in Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay.
Memorials in his name may be given to American Diabetes or to the American Heart Association.
