Long, Bernard Patrick Bernard Patrick Long,70, left this world surrounded by his loving family on September 22. He was born at St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, to James C. and Decima (Williams) Long. He is survived by his sisters Margaret Louise Brown of Texarkana, Tx, and Laura Sue Mc Evoy of Dallas, and brother Anthony Graham Long of Clyde, North Carolina. He and his wife, Sharon (Bailey) Long were married for 46 beautiful years. Together they raised 6 children Decima "Daisy" (Long) Israelson of Garland, and Sarah Long and Mona Aldridge of Richardson, and Cayce and Mary Lou (Long) Shelton of Rowlett, and Kenneth (Obie) and Mary (Seat) Long of Fairbanks, AK, and Joe Long and Lindsay Tanaka of Dallas, and Henry and Kacey (Sewell) Long of Rowlett. He had 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who he loved to spoil. Bernie attended St. Edwards, and St. Thomas Aquinas for grade school, and graduated from Jesuit College Prepatory, class of 1962. He proudly served in the U.S. Army at Camp Perry in Weisbodden, Germany where he fought the battle of the beer halls, before attending University of Texas at Arlington where received his Bachelor of Arts in Government class of 1969. He began working as a secondary teacher at Lincoln High School and later at Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Tx. Bernie and Sharon returned to Dallas where he worked for his father's business Long Machine Tool Co. in Deep Ellum as a salesman, until he retired to care for his grandchildren. He actively took part in his community graduating from Leadership Garland, as well as serving on the Garland Historical Society. Bernie taught CCD, and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He made a lasting and memorable impact on all he met. He was loved throughout the community and his unexpected death has left many in shock and grief. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Garland, on Thursday with a funeral mass on Friday, 2:00 PM at St. Bernards of Clairvaux and graveside service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Good Samaritans of Garland in his memory.

I have many memories of Bernie. We went to St Thomas Aquinas and Jesuit together. He was always kind and very funny
.We shared many good times. He is missed.

So sorry to hear about Bernie. His great grandfather and mine were brothers. We talked years ago about the Long family and how we were related. I was hoping we could share more family history together. My prayers go out to his family.
