Gene Russell Flint Gene Russell Flint passed from this life on October 21, 2013. He was born August 25, 1934, the son of Beatrice and Marvin Flint. He married Dorothy Shurlow in 1960, she survives. He is also survived by his sons David (Melissa) Flint of San Marcos, Texas and daughter Julie (James Starzynski) Flint of Duluth, Minnesota, grandchildren Levi and Austin Flint and Hilarie Sorensen; a brother James Flint and sister Bonnie (Ronald) Metcalf, both of Battle Creek, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Norman King and sister Mary Ann Buber. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1953 and served in the active duty Navy from 1954 to 1959 followed by naval reserve duty and a short time in the air force reserve. He worked at Kellogg Company for 37 years, retiring as an electrician in 1990. Gene was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Michigan Trail Riders Association, Yankee Spring Trail Rider Association, The Battle Creek Ski Club, AFGM, NRA and the VFW. While aging was unkind to him, in the good years he loved to laugh and was considered great fun by some and a nuisance by others; but he never passed by someone needing help without stopping. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Barry County Humane Society, or to a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 25, 2013 at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church (159 131s Ave., Wayland) prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 to be immediately followed by luncheon at the church. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home, please visit our website at www.girrbachfuneralhome.net to sign the online guestbook or to leave a memory or message for the family.

My father Roy Nevins worked at Kelloggs with Gene. I always remember dad having a big grin on his face when describing one of Gene's latest pranks. In 2011 dad passed away. I'm glad he now has a good friend to stir up fun with in heaven.

Gene would come into the Plant Computer room to "visit." Whenever he left, we were all laughing and feeling better than before he came in. Quite a guy and always a gentleman. Our sincere sympathy to the family and all who knew him.

Dorothy, David and Julie our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dorothy I want you to know how fond my memories are of you and Gene. As kids your house was my favorite place to come because of the horses and all the fun you'd supply me, especially Gene. He always had a horse ready for me to ride and of course we can't forget breaking my arm on one of those horses. I can still hear Genes voice. Thank you for all those memories. Gene was a wonderful man.
