A native of Kingston Springs and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He moved to Nashville after the war, received a Master's degree from Vanderbilt University and spent 40 years with Genesco.
Preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Butts. Survived by his sons, Samuel A. Butts III (Glenna) and James Edward Butts.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy. 100, Nashville, (615) 646-9292. www.afamilylegacy.com
