SANDSTROM
Amelia (Rossi), of Fair Lawn passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the age of 90.
Amelia was born in Naples Italy in 1923. She met and married Leo Sandstrom, an American soldier stationed in Naples, Italy and eventually moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Coming from a large city, she found it difficult adjusting to living on a farm so after Leo finished plumbing school, they moved several times, finally settling in Fair Lawn, NJ in 1948.
Amelia worked as a sewing machine operator for over 30 years until her retirement in 1995. She was a parishioner of St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church in Paterson and an active member of St. Gerard's Seniors. She loved to travel, especially with the parish trips that Msgr. Mark. Giordani would arrange when he was Pastor at St. Gerard's. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 281.
Amelia is survived by three daughters, Rita Verrone, Marie Valente, Anna Mannion, a son Carlo and two sisters, Rose and Olga. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Amelia was predeceased by her husband Leo, her brothers Carlo and Giuseppe Rossi, her son Jerry Sandstrom, and her granddaughters Maureen Jacobs and Toni-Marie Hals.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 8 PM on Friday, October 25th at the Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Rd Fair Lawn, NJ, (201) 797-3500. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 AM on Saturday, October 26th at St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 501 West Broadway, Paterson. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 58 Mclean Blvd, Paterson.
