Ivan Jean Hobbs, 73, a recent resident of Vista Grande Inn in Cortez, Colo., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. Iva Jean was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Iva "Buster" Hilton and Opal Jean Hinsen Goddard.
Iva grew up in the Four Corners area and moved to Vega, Texas, while raising her family. She did return back to the Four Corners where she was known for participation in volunteering at Catholic Charities, Echo Food Bank and Salvation Army. While raising her family she was involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as a scout leader. Iva loved roses and enjoyed growing them, gardening, cooking, baking and arts and crafts.
Iva leaves behind her two sisters, Pauline Shyrock and family of Aztec and Elaine Renfro and family of Winslow, Ariz.; and four children, Sherry Valdez of Bloomfield, James "Jim" Hobbs (Tammy) and family of Covington, Ga., Sheila Quezada of Bloomfield, and Shirley Baumann (Mark) of Lakeland, Fla. Iva is also is survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Iva "Buster" Hilton, and her mother, Opal Jean Goddard; brother, Roy Dale Hilton; sister, Linda Gail Kennedy-Zammaron; son-in-law, Delfigo "Del" Valdez; grandson, Jonathon Hobbs; and two granddaughters, Samantha Hobbs and Kelley Nicole Baumann.
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services for Iva will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Event Center, 1441 E. Blanco Blvd. in Bloomfield with Pastor Benny Cogburn officiating.
