Nancy Ann Charles January 27, 1948 November 18, 2013 Nancy Ann Charles nee Blakeslee, 65, of Willia- msport, died on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Manor Care North, of complications related to Parkinson's disease. Born in Bellefonte, on January 27, 1948, Nancy was the youngest of Glen L. and Kathryn R. Blakeslee's three children. Nancy and William G. Charles married on June 6, 1970 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in South Williamsport. Coworkers at the elementary school where they taught introduced the two educators. Nancy graduated from Penn State University in 1968 with a degree in elementary education and taught first and second grade at Cochran Elementary School in Williamsport from 1968 until 1973. Her teaching skills intertwined well with motherhood as Nancy focused on getting her sons' lives off to a great start. She returned to teaching local children as a substitute teacher in the Williamsport Area School District intermittently between 1980 and 1994. She was employed at Roseview Court as activities coordinator from 1997 until 2000 and then as a kindergarten teacher at Fairfield Academy for the 2000-2001 school year. Nancy combined her love of children and books when she went to work in the children's department of the James V. Brown Library in 2001, retiring in 2009. She found joy in guiding young people as they embraced reading. Nancy loved reading, decorating her home, and spending time with her family, particularly her granddaughter. She enjoyed teaching children and loved her cat. Nancy was a member of the Thomas T. Taber Museum, which she saw as a valuable community resource and considered it one of her most favorite places in Williamsport. She dreamed of publishing a children's book and once confided she had started notes for one. In addition to her husband of 43 years, Nancy is survived by sons, Michael G. Charles, of Wellsboro and Steven W. Charles, of Washington, DC; granddaughter, Reese Kathryn Charles; brother, Glenn L. Blakeslee, of Williamsport; sister, Dorothy M. Blakeslee, of Gaithersburg, Md.; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Reese Charles; son-in-law, Matthew B. Ciske; and her cat, Oliver. Nancy's family and friends will celebrate her beautiful life on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, PA. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service on Thursday.
