Mary Elizabeth Riemer
Mary Elizabeth Riemer, 87, of Pleasant Plains, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Bickford House.
She was born on May 30, 1926 in Rend City, IL., to James and Mary Ruth McCarty Richardson. She married Paul Riemer on October 11, 1946 in Bradfordton and he survives.
She is also survived by her two sons, James Albert (Retha) Riemer of Springfield and Paul D. Riemer of Farmingdale; one daughter, Beverly (Dave) McCurley of Rochester; six grandchildren: Jimmy, Andrea, Paul J. "PJ" Melissa, Chris, and Eric; six great-grandchildren: Jimmy D., Jayden, David, Olivia, Mya, and Jack; and one brother, James Henry Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha and Florence, and her brother, Curtis.
Mrs. Riemer worked at the munitions factory in Illiopolis during World War II inspecting bullets and then she went to work building troop carriers at Allis Chalmers where she met her husband. During those years one of Mary's favorite pastimes was dancing the jitterbug with her twin sister Martha. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, old time gospel music, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mary and her husband were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains and former members of the 38 Club.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, with Rev. Donald Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Dear Mr Riemer, Jim, Bev and Paul: I was saddened just to learn the news that Mrs Riemer had passed away. I spent many a night at your house growing up and was always treated like family. Your mom was a Saint to put up with all of our shenanigans. She was one of the special moms and I never went home hungry. I so wish I could have made her visitation and service. Godspeed.

So sorry to read about Mary. She was a wonderful woman. I spent many days at her house growing up in farmingdale. I talked to Bev just before Christmas and she told me that Mary was not doing well. I went home that evening and was telling my husband about her and the memory that came to mind was when I was sitting outside with her on a summer day and she was pulling ticks off of the dog and smashing them with rocks, an odd memory but I thought is was pretty cool. I know you all will miss her so much but know that she is in a better place. Remember all of the fun times and laughter that you had with her and maybe that will help ease your pain. May she rest in peace.
