Mrs. Vermol Aline Retherford Johnson, age 89, a resident of Dothan, Ala., died Monday Jan. 13, 2014 at Flowers Hospital following a sudden illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on Oct. 5, 1924 in Bonifay, the daughter of Tobe Spilkin Retherford and Flossie Elvira Martin Retherford. She was a retired cosmetologist after more than 50 years of owning her own Beauty shop in Dothan, Ala., and Bonifay. Mrs. Johnson moved from Bonifay to Dothan, Ala., and lived at the Terrace at Grove Park in Dothan, Ala., since the death of her husband in early 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Johnson; a son, Terry Johnson and a brother, Doyle Retherford.
Survivors include a grandson, Mark Johnson, Dothan, Ala.; a granddaughter, Terri Spitler (Mick), Dothan, Ala.; five great-granddaughters, Abby Spitler Olive (Brennan), Montgomery, Ala., Macy Ann Spitler Arrington (Ben), Dothan, Ala., Ashley Nicole Johnson McFarland (Trevor), Dothan, Ala., Alyssa Marie Johnson, Dothan, Ala. and Katelyn Johnson of Dothan, Ala.; two sisters, Johnnie Retherford Skipper, Panama City and Joynell Retherford Davis, McGhee, Arkansas; a brother, W. T. Retherford and a sister-in-law, Frances Ellis of Bonifay.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at Live Oak Assembly of God Church in Bonifay, with Brother Kenneth Martin and Brother Danny Carnley officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Contributions can be made to Live Oak Assembly of God Church, Highway 177 A, Bonifay, FL 32425. Serving as pallbearers were: Millard Retherford, Don Robinson, Roy Messer, John Garrett, Wayne Retherford and Charlie Hall.
