Robert Pericolosi Obituary

Robert Pericolosi
August 28, 1938 - January 22, 2014
Resident of Foster City
Bob Pericolosi passed away in his home on January 22, 2014, after a long illness.
Bob was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago in the Pullman community. After graduating from CVS High School, he enlisted and served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1957 until 1959.
Shortly after his discharge, a cute, pony-tailed girl in a soda shop caught his eye and he was smitten. They married in 1961 and settled in her hometown of Roseland while raising their first-born daughter, Gina.
In 1970, after moving to California, Bob spent many years coaching girls' softball and soccer. He loved scuba diving off the California coast for Abalone, snow skiing in Tahoe, playing softball with the Native Sons' League, nurturing his vegetable gardens and preparing delicious, Italian meals. Even though Bob was an avid 49er fan, he never stopped cheering for the Chicago Bears.
He is survived by Aloma, his caring wife of 52 years, three devoted daughters, Gina, Jennifer and Leah, five cherished grandchildren, Taylore, Bobby, Gianni, Eme and Mia and many nieces and nephews.
After suffering a massive stroke in 2000, he fought the fight of his life trying to walk again by attending and sweating through adaptive P.E classes at the College of San Mateo and doing pool therapy. After all that, he still found the strength and energy to volunteer in the office at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in San Mateo.
Family and friends fondly remember him not only for his wide smile and easy wit but mostly for his determination and courage. He was an inspiration to everyone he met. He never allowed the effects of a stroke nor cancer prevent him from enjoying life to the fullest.
Bob was first and foremost a family man and a loyal friend who never had a negative thing to say about anyone. He was forgiving and understanding of all human foibles. Working in San Francisco there were numerous occasions when he would feed the homeless and listen to their stories. Aloma would never allow him to visit a shelter for animals without her for fear he would empty it and bring all the critters home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Mission Hospice and Homecare with special thanks to Ruth Fullmer, an angel in disguise.
A memorial celebration of Bob's life is being planned.

Six months have passed and it hasn't gotten any easier. You are missed and remembered daily. Some say it gets easier. I keep waiting for that time. Love always, Aloma

Thank you for everyone's well wishes and remembrances of my Dad. He was a man that wore many hats; one of a son, a marine, a husband, a friend, a dad, and probably his favorite, a Grandfather. He did his best to live up to each of those the best he knew how, and he will be missed. As a family, we have many stories that will be enjoyed and remembered for years to come. He started my garden with me and had the same love of animals as I do, and we both feel that you can't have enough of either one. Semper Fi Pop. I love ya.

To the family of Marine Veteran Robert Pericolosi:

As the daughter of a proud Marine who served in WWII, I was particularly moved by your loved one's obituary in the San Jose Mercury/News. We are all "family" in the Marine Corp and I want to than your loved one for serving. Please know that you are all in my prayers. I am sorry I never had the pleasure of knowing him. Semper Fi!
