WAYNESBORO Mr. Ray B. Doyle, 92, died at 1:42 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014, in his home. He married his first wife, Mary G. (Miller) Doyle in 1946. She died on August 4, 1969. He married his second wife, Laura Mae (Sites) Doyle, on February 5, 2004 in Adams County. Born December 15, 1921, in East Berlin, he was the son of the late Johnson B. and Dorothy E. (Fogle) Doyle. He was a graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover. He later attended the Brown and Sharpe Trade School in Providence, R.I., and received his Journeyman's Certificate from Brown and Sharpe Manufacturing Company. Mr. Doyle served with the United States Navy from June 1944 until June 1946. He was a throttleman aboard the U.S. Ship Lake Champlain when she set the record for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean at that time. From 1951 until 1968, Mr. Doyle was employed at the Hess Manufacturing Company, Quincy, attaining the position of Vice President of Operations. From 1968 until his retirement in 1985, he worked for New Way Packaging Machinery, Inc. in Hanover, where he was the production coordinator and was later promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing. He served as president of the Hanover Chapter of Future Craftsman Club of America from 1939-1940 and as the president of the Hanover Industrial Management Club of 1980-1981. Mr. Doyle enjoyed antiques and working on genealogy. In addition to his second wife, he is survived by two daughters, Georgia Ann Martin of Silver Springs, Md., and Barbara Jeanne Glasco of Kensington, Md.; two stepdaughters, Louise Shultz and Lois Crouse, both of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Hogg of Washington state; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Philip Henry Doyle; one stepson, Edward Graff; six sisters, Beulah Lefever, Edith Miller, Dorothy White Boone, Ruth Hagarman, Clara Virginia Swartz, and Elva Aikens; and two brothers, Johnson Doyle and Lester Doyle. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Lin Smalec officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Sunday afternoon in the funeral home.
