Powell, Jean Alice (Griert)
of Chandler, AZ passed away on March 3rd, 2014. She was born in Winslow, AZ on July 3rd, 1928. She was raised on her parents' farm in Williamsfield, Illinois, before moving back to Arizona on her own in 1947. She worked at a drug store in Chandler, where she met her husband of over 30 years Glenn Elmo Powell. She was a member of Alma School Road Church of Christ. She had a great and silly sense of humor, loved birds, dogs, arguing politics and ice cream. Most of all, she loved her children and Grandchildren. She was predeceded in death by daughter, Charyll, who died of cancer in 1993. Jean is survived by her children, Barbara Dynes (Terry), Glenna Lewis (Raymond) and Ray Powell (Kimberly). She is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She would like donations to be sent in her memory to the Humane Society or to the Alma School Church of Christ in lieu of flowers. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday March 15th 2014 at 2:00 pm at Glenna's home. To leave an online condolence to the family, visit our website at www.melcherchapelofroses.com.

Glenna, Barbara, Ray and family,
I know how heavy your hearts must be as you let go of your dear mom. I know how much she loved you all, and you will miss her terribly, but I hope you can rest in the knowledge that she was ready to let go of her life on earth and felt fulfilled. I was hoping to come to your Celebration of Life, but, having been lying flat with a back injury for the past two weeks, I have canceled all weekend plans. Please know that I will be with you in spirit tomorrow and will keep all of you in my prayers for healing and peace.
Blessings to all, Wendy Boorn

Mom, You are great. You made Jesus real in my life when I was still so young. You gave me morals and values that are so lacking in this world today. You are the best! My heart is heavy, but I also rejoice that you are with The Lord! Your words, your sense of humor,Your love and your faith will live in me for the rest of my life. We shall rejoice together one day! LOVE YOU MOM!

Grandma, we will all miss you and your amazing sense of humor! Growing up your home was always so fun and kid friendly. We were all blessed to have you in our lives. Now you behave yourself up there with the big guy. Love always!

Mom, you were the best mother a child could ask for. You sacrificed for your children and loved us unconditionally. I will never be the same with you gone, I miss you more than I can almost bear. I love you and hope that you are reunited with the rest of our family now.
Your loving daughter, Barbara

Grandma, you were always the silly one. I have lots of memories playing with all your cool toys and I especially loved all the chickens, dogs, cats and birds when we were kids! It was like a little farm there! Your loving spirit and sense of humor will be missed, but Heaven has gained a wonderful lady! Rest in peace, until we meet again. Love you!

Barbara I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I believe you are the same that grew up in Chandler as I did. Even though we never hung around I always remember your smile and friendly way. My maiden name was Claudia Cowell. Pray the Lord to be your comfort. My email address is [email protected] should you ever want to just say hey... or possibly meet for coffee and chat.

Jean I will truly miss you and those Bird Chirping clocks of yours. I loved your sense of humor. The fact that we could call you and ask medical questions and you were usually right except for the part of using pet meds now and then. Best Mother-in-law a guy could ask for. Until we meet again.
Love you, Raymond

Jean was my first cousin. She was a wonderful cousin. I will miss her. Even though we lived miles apart from one another ,when I would visit Arizona I always contacted her. She cared for many children in the Chandler area besides her own family. Yes, her sense of humor was indeed different. Could always find something to laugh about. And she definitely loved her family. My sympathy and prayers are sent to her family. I loved her too.
