Ann Lee Overstreet Hargis, 70, of Goode, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born May 6, 1943 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Richard D. Overstreet and Ethel Tinsley Overstreet. Ann graduated from New London Academy in 1962 and was an employee of G.E. for three years as an engineering secretary. She then went on to further her career with the USPS for a span of 35 years in which 23 of those she served as Postmaster in Goode. Ann was dedicated to her church, Oakland United Methodist Church as organist and pianist for over 50 years. She was a Lay Leader for the church and instrumental in starting many programs. She was also a greeter for Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. She was a volunteer for Gleaning for the World, The National D-Day Memorial, and The Shepherds Table. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by a son, Malcolm Charles Hargis. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Malcolm E. Hargis; a son, Gary Hargis of Roanoke; two aunts, Margaret Saunders of Bedford and Edith O. Shelton of Forest; a brother-in-law, William Hargis; two sisters-in-law, Margie Garnett and Dianne Hargis; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Lynchburg General Hospital NICU and Oncology/Palliative Care Unit, Oakwood Manor, and Gentiva for all their loving care. A celebration of Ann’s life was conducted at 11 AM, Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. H.O. “Tom� Thomas officiating.
