CLARKS SUMMIT — Peter P. Calabro Sr., 87, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday morning, April 26, 2014, at Abington Manor Nursing Facility in Clarks Summit. He was the husband of Patricia Cianflone Calabro. The couple has been married for 43 years.
Born in Carbondale, he was a son of the late Carmen and Mary Creo Calabro. He was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School and attended Rutgers University. He was a proud U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the United States Postal Service.
He was a member of The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.
Peter was also a member of the Abington Memorial VFV Post #7069 and served as past post commander. He was the past Commander of the DAV where he received a state award from the Pennsylvania Dept. of the DAV and inducted into the Chapels of Four Chaplains. The Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton honored him with a volunteer's award for over 2,000 hours of volunteer service.
Peter was a loving person who enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and doing volunteer work.
The family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor, Dr. Philbin, and neighbors and friends for their wonderful care and compassion during Pete's illness.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Russomano Calabro; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Also surviving are two daughters , Susan Calabro Trist and her husband, Mark, Reno, Nevada, and Mary Calabro Bailey and her husband, John, North Carolina; a son, Peter P. Calabro Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, Old Forge; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Amanda, Mackenzie, Adam, Louis and Peter "PJ" III; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held from the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. John M. Lapera, pastor. Interment with military honors followed in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
