Julius "Jay" Magill, 82, of Browndale, died Tuesday at Mid-Valley Hospital, Peckville. His wife of 55 years is the former Maureen E. King.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 1, 1931, son of the late Anthony and Catherine Brucas Magill, he was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. A graduate of Richmond Hill School, Richmond Hill, N.Y., he was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He married his beloved wife on April 4, 1959 in Richmond Hill, and the couple resided in Poughquag, N.Y., until 2003, when they moved to Pennsylvania. Before his retirement, he was employed for 40 years as a fire adjuster for Continental Insurance.
Jay loved wood working, gardening and fishing.
Also surviving are a son, Kevin Magill, Union Dale; three daughters, Kerry Henderson and husband, Guy, Browndale; Elaine Sokol and husband, James, Marietta, Ga.; and Sharon Cornell, Youngstown, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Christina Brigham, Wayne Magill, Kimberly Magill, Jennifer Boyd, Michael Jay Magill, James Miller, Ryan Sokol, Joseph Sokol and Amanda Sokol; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Magill; and a sister, Lucy Masaitis.
The funeral will be Friday from the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Forest City.
Friends may call today, 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Forest City Emergency Services, 380 Railroad St., Forest City, PA 18421; or the American Diabetes Association, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
