Romayne Bedell Obituary

Romayne Jacoby Bedell of Newton died Friday morning, just two weeks before her 92nd birthday, which would have been June 26. She was the wife of Gene Bedell. The couple was married for over 72 years.

Born in Newton, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Eva Krenitsky Jacoby. She was a graduate of Newton High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a cafeteria assistant for Abington Heights School District for over 20 years. She was a member of the Country Alliance Church, Newton, including its Women's Society.

Also surviving are three daughters, Carol Miller, Clarks Summit; Holly Flynn, Cookeville, Tenn.; and Kathleen Baldino and her husband, John, Scott Twp.; a grandson, Neil Miller and his wife, Kim; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jean and Nicholas Miller; two sisters, Lois Dunleavy and Alyce Burke; two sisters-in-law, Connie Degilio and June Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Jacoby.

Our mother fought a long battle for several years. Her primary caregiver during this time was her husband. Mom loved spending time with her surrounding family, especially with her great-grandchildren. Always positive, encouraging and loving, she saw the silver lining in everyone she met. In life we expect that things disappear, experiencing sorrows, the calm, the joys of living. We bend over beds, listen to repeated questions; we shed tears, live moment to moment; we learn the hard way the lessons of acceptance. It does no good to ask why. Just be there. Show up and listen. Know you've tried your best.

The family would like to give very special heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Sacred Heart Hospice nurses and staff, and Dave Betts, the hospice chaplain, for their compassionate care they showed during her long journey.

The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment, Milwaukee Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Monday from 1 until the service. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.
