John R. Blom
July 8, 1924 - June 15, 2014
John Roger Blom, 89, entered into rest on June 15, 2014 in Ripon, California. He was born in Ripon on July 8, 1924 to Bouke and Edith Blom.
John was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Ripon, CA, for over 70 years. He was always very actively involved in his church. After leaving high school, he joined the U.S. Army in October, 1944 and spent two years in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was honorably discharged on November 23, 1946.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 66 years, Ann. He is also survived by his children Gordon (Gert) Blom of Sioux Center, Iowa; Myron Blom of Auburn, CA; Rodney (Thea) Blom of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Stanley (Anita) Blom of South Bend, Indiana; and Beverly (Ron) Bennett of Hilmar, CA.
He leaves behind nine grandchildren including Dan (Emily) Blom, and their son; Steve (Sally) Blom and their daughter and two sons; Sara (Tim) Mulder and their three daughters, John (Alyssa) Blom, Conrad Blom, Andrew Blom, Eric Blom, Aaron Bennett and Adam Bennett.
He also leaves behind one brother, George (Liz) Blom and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters and four brothers.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel from 1-4 PM. Friday, June 20, 2014 a graveside service will be held at Ripon Cemetery at 10AM with a memorial service to follow at 11AM at First Christian Reformed Church in Ripon. Our sincere sympathy in the loss of your husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. We have many fond memories of John, especially with him being the bus driver for our girls when they were in elementary school at Ripon Christian.
