MECHANICSBURG Elaine Joy Kaufman-Schiller, 83, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014. She was the beloved wife of Lee M. Schiller. Elaine was born in York, on February 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna (Gordon) Golombeck. She worked as a life underwriter for Mass Mutual for over 20 years before her retirement. She enjoyed classical music and visiting the Harrisburg Symphony with her husband and she was a fantastic cook. Elaine had such a gentle spirit, always putting others before herself, and she made friends everywhere she went. Family was the most important thing to her. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her loving husband, Lee, she is survived by two children, David Kaufman and his wife, Millie of Schwenksville, and Edward Kaufman of Denver, Colo.; three step-children, Michael Schiller and his wife, Amy of Oceanside, N.Y., Susan Elias and her husband, Gary of New York City, N.Y., and Robin Seymour and her husband, William of Connecticut; grandchildren, Eliana and Jessica; stepgrandchildren, Jessica, Jason, Gabrielle, Benjamin, Samantha, and Lexi; step great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jeremiah, and Keefer; a sister, Evelyn Blumenthal of Plantation, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred; her brother, Herbie; and her first husband, Leon Kaufman. Graveside services will be Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery, 1010 E. Lisburn Road, Mechanicsburg, at 2 p.m. with Rabbi Carl Choper officiating. Shiva will be observed at Lee's home on Sunday after the service and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to the Harrisburg Symphony Association, 800 Corporate Circle, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
