Millicent Allison Obituary

Died July 28, 2014, in Miramar Beach Fla.; born July 5, 1924 in Flat River, Mo.
At the age of 20, Milly Allison hitched her dreams to a dashing fighter pilot returning from World War II. He whisked her off to California to meet his family and they were married two months later. This began a life-long adventure of family and travel that spanned the U.S. and the world. Born Millicent Ruth Phillips to Virgil and Opal Norris Phillips in Flat River on July 5, 1924, Milly died of natural causes on July 28, 2014 in Miramar Beach just weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday with family. She will be interred in Los Angeles National Cemetery with her predeceased husband of 41 years, Robert William Allison, on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.
Milly was raised in St. Louis, Mo. where she worked for Curtis Wright Aerospace during the war. After her marriage, the family moved 13 times in 25 years, including three overseas assignments in Guam, Japan, and Thailand. Beautiful, elegant, gracious and always impeccably dressed, Milly was the quintessential officer's wife, quickly adjusting to the constantly changing assignments, single-parenting during long separations, serving on Officer's Wives Clubs, and volunteering as a Gray Lady in hospitals.
Upon returning to California, Milly began a new 30+ year career as Health Center Administrator and Campus Police support at Pierce College, Los Angeles. While there, she developed lifelong friendships, took up painting, served with the Canoga Park Women's Club, PEO and the Chamber of Commerce. She qualified for the Community Emergency Response Team in her 60s, survived stage three ovarian cancer in her 70s, and lived independently well into her mid-80s. Late in life she made one more move to be near family in Florida.
Millicent is survived by her three daughters, Marissa (J.L) Benton, Ginger (David) Shaw, and Robin Allison; seven grandchildren, John (Michelle) Benton, Allison (Lee) Henderson, Michael (Allison) Shaw, Robert (Catherine) Shaw, Kelly (Ray) Ash; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Benton, Benton, Luke and Brooke Henderson, Liam, Emily, and Malcolm Shaw and Preston Shaw. Another great granddaughter, Baby Ash, is due in Nov.
