I am so saddened by Vicki's passing. Vicki subbed for me at Woodbury where she was well-loved and part of the family. Her sense of humor, dependability, and pragmatism were true assets. I always smile when I think of her! She will be missed.

Vicki was a close friend during our years at St. Viator School. We spent nearly every Friday Happy Hour together. She was a special teacher that my two boys loved. All of her students were so very fortunate to have her in their lives. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Dear Family of Vicki,
My name is Judy Epstein and Vicki was a substitute teacher at my
school, Cortney MS. Vicki was my favorite sub. Always dependable
and thorough. I knew my classroom and students were well taken care of with her taking charge.
Vicki always left a small gift and note for my return. One time she knitted a spider for Halloween. I hung it each year in my classroom's doorway.
I can't tell you how much my students loved hitting that thing as they walked through the door.
So sorry for your loss. She was a delightful lady.

Loved being in Mrs. Mackesy's class at St. Viator... always hoping she would throw a jolly rancher my way... hoping not to get the death stare from her for doing something wrong. Then later she invited me to serve at Science Camp which were such a blast, seeing her on the other side as a friend, not just a teacher. She was a gifted woman who God used to bless countless lives. She will be missed by many, you are loved Vicki!

Mrs. Mackesy always took the time out her busy schedule to touch the lives of others. Her teaching style made Science interesting for those who "uh um" weren't interested...I mean, who can say they went to Science Camp?? She will always be one of those teachers who made a difference in my life. My condolences to her family and loved ones.

I still cannot quite imagine a world without Vicki. We had been friends since college. Although completely different in personalities, we were stalwart supporters of one another, and of our friends. Life took us many miles apart, but the love and loyalty remained.
Mack, I still can't express how saddened and sorry I am for your loss. May our amazing, unique, funny lady rest in eternal peace.

Vicki and I met almost exactly 37 years ago at EIU. She never met a stranger, and later in our freshman year we were roomies. I think I may responsible for the only B in her college career). My junior year (her senior as she graduated early) we became roommates again. I treasure that time. Long discussions, her rapier wit and zest for life have traveled with all of us through adulthood.
While We saw each other only a few times since, I loved her big heart--she shared with me how much she loved all of her students. And I know we will all miss her terribly.
Condolences to Mack and family.

Starting St. Viator, in particular the 6th grade, in the midst of a school year is never easy. Mrs. Vicki Mackesy made an already difficult move a smooth transition for an awkward middle-schooler. She was welcoming & warm not just to me but to all her students. I ran into her over a decade ago - she hugged me and unbelievably, asked about my sister and two brothers (by name!), she will always be one of our favorite teachers. I'll never forget Science Camp, the friends I am still lucky to have, and all the life lessons that have stayed with me thirty years later. Wishing your family love and light. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Mackesy.

Ms Mac, as she was referred to by the kids, was a wonderful teacher. She was tough yet loving. She was fair with all her students yet maintained discipline in her classes. You never heard stories about anything out of control happening in her classes, yet the kids learned and had fun doing it. She was my kids teacher for 6 years. I thank the Lord that they were blessed to have her for a teacher. My prayers are with her family. She will be missed.

Her legacy lives on in the students she taught and nurtured and the lives she touched. How many teachers, scientists and doctors passed through her classroom? So many minds were opened and life-long learners created. She will be remembered.

Mrs. Mackesy was our favorite junior high teacher, both for the knowledge she shared as well as the infamous wit. Our boys loved her, and she was a treasured part of the St. Viator School community. We hope the lifetime of memories are a comfort to her husband and friends.

One of a kind with razor-sharp wit that was perfect for junior high. Students, parents, and staff LOVED her. I am so very sad to hear of her passing.
Two favorite memories I can share:
1.) " Ashes of Problem Students" jar
2.) Mrs. Mackesy sent for me while on
playground duty (elementary aide at
the time)and had her sixth grade class
serenade me with her infamous ballad-
"On Your Birthday-Uh"
RIP Wonderful lady - job well done. K Wo

I will never forget the day we learned about reproduction. Mrs. Mackesy made us get the giggles out before starting. She also gave us her home phone to call her in case we were ever in trouble. She truly enjoyed teaching and watching her students learn as evidenced by her unforgettable smile. The world has lost a truly exceptional teacher. To her family, you are wished whatever brings peace to your heart.

I met Vicki at WMS many years ago. She was a substitute teacher, but oh she was more than that. She was a fixture at our school. We teachers always looked forward to seeing her and she was there quite often. The kids loved her too. She was funny, kind and so reliable. I would book my Jewish holiday a year in advance with Vicki. She always had her day planner open ready to book her sub days. I am so sorry for your loss, but just know that Vicki touched so many lives in wonderful ways. My middle schoolers were so happy to know that Mrs. Mackesy was filling in for me when I would be out. What a compliment to her.

From her funny songs in the courtyard ("La Cockaroacha," anyone?), to her funny "insults" ("Put your arm down; you're losing friends."), to her Jolly Rancher-incentivized test study sessions, Mrs. Mack was universally loved at St. Viator. She had an enthusiasm for teaching and a genuine caring for each of her students that was readily apparent to all and made her extremely and deservedly popular. I hope she was as fulfilled and enriched by her teaching career as we students were from having her as our teacher. We love you, Mrs. Mack! #MyVeryEducatedMackesyJustShowedUsNinePlanets

Mrs. Mackesy was one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is one of the major reasons I am a teacher today. I was lucky enough to live down the street from her and see her at a personal level as well. She was always around to talk and make you laugh. We will miss you so much Mrs. Mack.
