Visitation hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, both in the Heritage Hall at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph.

Ben was born May 13, 1997 in Duluth MN and passed away on October 6, 2016 at the young age of 19. Up until the age of 5 he and his mother Sarah Klehr lived in St. Cloud. From there they moved to St. Joseph, MN. He attended St. Joseph Lab School and then Kennedy Elementary. He graduated from Apollo High School in 2015.  Ben joined the Army National Guard and graduated from basic training in November of 2015 from Fort Benning, GA. He recently was promoted to the rank of Army Specialist. He was an avid long boarder. His musical interests ranged from rap to country music, to loving Frank Sinatra. Ben enjoyed swimming at the quarry with friends, traveling to Colorado with the group Young Life, admired loud pipes and fast cars, hunting, spending time with his mom, closest friends and his  two cats Sasha and Dunn. He had a special connection to Duluth and camping in the BWCA.

Ben is survived by his loving mother Sarah Klehr (formerly from St. Joseph), Sarah's fiancé Jeff Houdek and his children Francis and Sadie Sue, grandparents Ron and Carla Klehr, aunts and uncles Toni and Tim McEvoy, Jenny and Todd Hofstad, cousins Jack, Hank, Gus, and Sam McEvoy, Grace Hofstad and his half sister Peyton Brandt.

Ben is also survived by Charlie Section, 2nd Platoon, Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron 94th Calvary Regiment, 194th 5-15 Calvary, Troop Bravo (Fort Benning, GA), the "5 K's" band of brothers, the "Joe Town Boys", and countless friends and teachers he loved dearly.

My dearest Ben,

Has it already been a year? Time doesn't distance the fact you are not physically here with me. You brought me back home in May to almost the same place I raised you. You truly have never left my side, always guiding and always giving yourself away in the little moments when I have needed you the most. I get to see your bright smile and feel your embrace in my dreams, seemingly real and perfect you are once again. Those dreams carry a story and once written down when I awake hold new memories of you. New beginnings are abundant here which you have had a hand in almost every one of them. To answer the one question you asked me ....I can honestly now say yes.. I truly am. One more day down and one more closer to you

I love you Ben, Always...

I remember Ben as a smiling little boy at St. Aug's & St. Mary's School where I served as the Media Specialist. I grieve at his death and am thinking especially of his mother Sarah who was always his advocate. Their love for each other was evident. My prayers are with you.

You used to bike to my house almost every day when we were kids in elementary school. You were always like a big brother to me: kind, funny, protective. I remember you helping me out of a tree once when I was too scared to climb down, and you helping me beat my brother at video games I didn't even understand. You've been a blessing since day one. I'm so thankful to have all of these sweet memories of you to look back on. Rest peacefully, big brother.

Ben, you have left a memory with everyone you have ever met. Just through one memory with each individual that knew you, you will live on in our hearts. The Kingdom of Heaven has another soldier, another brave and honorable man. Brother, may you rest in peace.

I met Ben in high school, he was the most caring person I've ever met, he always checked in on me and had a smile on his face every time I saw him. I can still hear him in my head saying "Hey kasie!" Every time we saw each other. I'm so happy I met him and got to share the class of 2015. May you rest in peac ben, fly high like an eagle.

Ben was a real nice kid. Even though his loss came so early, Ben's legacy will be with me forever. I seen him not that long ago at the beginning of last month in college and he looked like the Ben we all knew from St. Cloud Apollo High School. May you rest in piece and fly high like an eagle would Ben!

I meet Ben in high school when I was in his poetry teachers classroom. He was always so cheerful and he helped me to have fun in high school, he also made high school easier for me by talking to me and giving me advice. He always had a smile on his face

Ben was one of my favorite classmates. I remember how polite he was and what a nice person he was. He was a hard worker and he had the most caring abundant nature to him. I looked over at where he usually sat in class, and it saddened me that he didn't sit there anymore.

I took poetry with Ben in high school. He wrote some of the most beautiful, touching poems I've ever read. It was an honor to be in that class with him, and an even bigger honor to get to know him personally. He's going to be missed, and already is.
