DEAVOURS, Reba Mae Johnson Reba Mae Johnson Deavours, age 93, of PruittHealth Nursing Home, Atlanta, Georgia, died on October 9, 2016 at 7:42. Mrs. Deavours was born September 29, 1923 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to the former Carl L. and Allie Mae Newman Johnson. She was the last survivor of seven siblings. Mrs. Deavours spent her youth primarily in Seymour, Sevier County, Tennessee graduating from Chilhowee High School, Sevier County Tennessee. She worked for a time as a Knoxville S & W Cafeteria hostess where she met theatre manager George S. Deavours. After their April 5, 1942 marriage, she worked as a Western Union telegraph operator in Knoxville, Tennessee and Washington, DC; as a bookkeeper in Kingsport, Tennessee, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Montgomery, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia and until their retirement, as a secretary for her husband. He predeceased her on September 5, 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Deavours attended the Baptist Church in Knoxville. Mrs. Deavours is survived by her children Dianne D. Shafer (Mrs. John) of Glen Allen, Virginia, and son, George C. Deavours of Decatur, Georgia. She is also survived by one grandson, Michael Shafer (Denise), head women's basketball coach at the University of Richmond; and by great-granddaughters Sophie and Sumner Shafer, also of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mary C. Deavours and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. Her nephew Rev. Bill Johnson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Knoxville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, 6767 Forest Lawn Drive, Suite 303, Los Angeles, California 90068.
