Adelaide Patten Obituary

1922 ~ 2016
Adelaide was born on October 25, 1922 in Monet, Missouri, to Edith Reikat and Roy M. Copeland.
Adelaide passed away on August 27, 2016 at Bee Hive Homes in Washington, Utah.
Adelaide lived in quite a few places in her early years with her parents who worked as station managers and dispatcher for Union Pacific Railroad around the country. She entered Bethel Women's College, a girl's preparatory school in Hopkinsville, KY. At Bethel she studied everything from etiquette, chemistry and classical music and participated in archery, horseback riding and golf from 1937 to 1941. During her summer break she met Boyd Patten in Pioche, NV, where Boyd was working with her Brother Carlos in gold and silver mine. They eloped and married in Panaca, NV on January 11, 1941 and moved to Central NV and Utah working as telegraph operators until moving to Provo UT, where Boyd joined US Steel in the transportation division. In 1956 Boyd transferred to San Francisco where they raised their 4 children until Boyd was made transportation supervisor of US Steel in Pittsburg, CA in 1968. They moved to Stockton CA a few years later and started their own company Patten Steel Company with their sons Mike, Rodney and Scott. In 1991 they sold the company and retired in St. George UT where they lived until their passing.
They spent over 74 years together traveling the United States and enjoying a wide variety of foods and restaurants.
Adelaide is survived by her daughter Sandy Wilkes, son Scott Patten, daughter in law Diane, and 7 grandchildren, Kurja, Ryan, Aimee, Jamie, Lindsey, Rick and Chad, along with 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Edith, Father Roy, Husband Boyd, Brother Carlos and sons Michael and Rodney.
Adelaide will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, UT on October 22, 2016 at 11 a.m., with a family service immediately after at the Hampton Inn, in Orem, UT.
We would sincerely like to thank Robyn her long time care giver for all the loving care and friendship she gave to all of us in the past few years. We literally could not have done without her and the extraordinary compassion she bestowed on each of us and especially the gentleness and thought she gave to our mother when her life was so difficult. Also, our deepest appreciation for the management and staff at Bee Hive for the extra effort and excellent care they gave her.
